How to apply for a NASA Internship
Step 1
Explore NASA Internship Opportunities using their searchable list of projects and centers. Applicants will be more successful if specific projects at centers are selected according to qualifications and research interests. Use the search box to enter your desired research area.
Step 2
Create an account on NASA STEM Gateway to submit an application. By creating an account, students can complete one application and be considered for hands-on research experiences with multiple NASA research centers.
Step 3
Complete the NASA STEM Gateway application.
- All uploaded application documents should be in PDF format.
- Letters of recommendation may be uploaded with the transcripts
- Be sure to include your resume
Step 4
Sponsorship Student Request Form. Once you have completed your application/s through the NASA online system, please also complete our questionnaire to enable the ILSGC to determine eligibility for financial sponsorship, should a NASA mentor send a request to us for possible placement/s.
STEP 5
NASA mentors review your application and select the student(s) they would like to request sponsorship for.
STEP 6
If you are selected, a NASA Coordinator will contact the Illinois Space Grant to request sponsorship on your behalf. Illinois Space Grant will then review your application and determine whether funding is available. If your sponsorship is approved, Illinois Space Grant will contact you directly to request any additional information needed to move forward.
